Nigerian Celebrities Demand Action Over Killings

Prominent Nigerian rapper and music executive Jude Abaga, widely known as MI, has joined the growing outcry against the recent violent attacks in Benue State, expressing deep sorrow and calling for an end to the bloodshed. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), MI shared his grief, writing, “My heart is heavy. It grieves me deeply to see so much of the Middle Belt bleed. The recent killings in Benue are not just statistics, they are our people, our families, our communities being torn apart.”

He further extended his support to the affected communities, stating, “I stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters in Benue. Your pain is my pain. We can’t normalise this cycle of violence that has plagued our land for too long. To those we’ve lost: we will not forget you. To those still standing, we stand with you.” The rapper also urged authorities to conduct a transparent investigation and strengthen security in vulnerable areas.

Similarly, popular comedian and skit maker Sabinus has appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to take immediate action against the killings allegedly carried out by herdsmen militia. In a video message, he emphasized the urgency of the situation, warning that the violence could spread if left unchecked. He pleaded, “Our government and all the relevant security agencies, we are begging you to intervene in the ongoing killings in Benue State. Every life matters. Please, take urgent action to salvage the situation.”

Sabinus added, “We have been hearing of the killings, but it doesn’t make sense. We don’t know where it will happen next. We can be victims, too. Please, government intervene. Go and help the Benue State people. They need urgent help.”

Rapper Odumodublvck also reacted with shock and anger to the reported massacre in Yelewata, where over 100 people were killed, including a woman who lost all five of her children. Describing the situation as “insane,” he took to X to express his disbelief, writing, “What’s happening in Benue is insane. Ahn ahn. A woman lost her five kids. Na film?”

Meanwhile, controversial crossdresser Bobrisky (Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju) criticized Nigerian lawmakers for their silence on the crisis, contrasting it with their swift response to other issues. On his Instagram story, he wrote, “Senator/house representative didn’t call urgent meeting over the kiling happening in benue. But they can call urgent meeting when it comes to bobrisky. Shame, shame!!!!, Shame!!!. What a shameful country.”

Adding his voice to the condemnation, legendary singer 2Baba (Innocent Idibia) expressed deep frustration over the unchecked violence in his home state. In an emotional video, he lamented, “My heart is heavy, terribly sad, terribly angry! It’s become a national emergency what is going on in my state, Benue state….I can’t wrap my head around it. It’s just business as usual. Condemn the killings but this thing has to stop. This thing has to involve everybody in this country.”

He called on President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action, saying, “It is not child’s play. It’s becoming ridiculous. Haba! I don’t even know where to express my sadness, my grief, my anger, my frustration, for this thing to keep happening over and over again… Haba!!! This thing is not funny. It’s not funny anymore. It’s gone beyond condemning. Serious action needs to start to take place.”
