Tinubu Marks Democracy Day with Call for Inclusive Governance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed a joint session of the National Assembly today to commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day. In his speech, Tinubu praised his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, for designating June 12 as Democracy Day, recognizing the historic significance and sacrifices made to secure democracy.

Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and continuing the work of those who fought for civilian rule. He also urged stronger collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government, emphasizing the importance of collective effort in democratic governance.

The President highlighted the ongoing quest for a truly inclusive Pan-Nigerian identity, stressing the need to perfect it. His speech was well-received by lawmakers, who gave him a standing ovation.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Tinubu for transforming Nigeria through democratic reforms and national leadership. The President’s address was initially scheduled as a national broadcast but was delivered at the National Assembly due to his attendance at the joint session.

In his speech, Tinubu emphasized the importance of working together to build a stronger, more inclusive democracy that benefits all Nigerians. The Democracy Day celebration serves as a reminder of the country’s journey towards democratic governance and the need for continued efforts to perfect it.
