FIREFIGHTERS

‎In a bid to enhance fire safety and prevent potential outbreaks, the Sole Administrator of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Dr. Ndu Walter, has procured a range of fire extinguishers for deployment across the Local Government Area.

‎Speaking shortly after procuring the firefighting equipment, Dr. Walter noted that upon assuming office, he identified a critical gap in firefighting preparedness. Specifically, the absence of fire extinguishers within the Council Secretariat and acknowledged the significant risk this posed to lives and public property.

‎He said the newly acquired fire extinguishers, available in various sizes, will be strategically installed in council offices, government-owned facilities, local markets, and other high-risk public spaces throughout the Local Government Area.

‎“This initiative is a preventive safety measure to mitigate the dangers of fire outbreaks. Which are often triggered by natural elements or flammable materials,” the Sole Administrator explained.

‎The Administrator also hinted that selected council personnel will undergo professional training on safe handling and operation procedures to ensure proper and effective use of the extinguishers.

‎This intervention follows the fire incident at the Rumuomasi Morning Market and the commitment of the Administrator to ensure safety, risk reduction, and emergency preparedness across Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
