Cristiano Ronaldo Scores as Portugal Defeats Germany

Last night at the Allianz Arena, Portuguese icon Cristiano Ronaldo was on the score sheet as Portugal beat Germany to secure a place in the European Nations League final. Portugal came from a goal down to score two goals and break Germany’s 25-year unbeaten record against them after a Florian Wirtz header put the German side ahead in the 48th minute of the encounter.

Though not as prolific as he used to be in his 20’s and 30’s, the Portuguese superstar is still putting in top performances, proving that, despite being 40 years old, age is just a number. Yesterday, he helped his team rally back as his goal was enough to secure a 1-2 victory for his team after it seemed history would repeat itself, as it had for the past 25 years.

With more than 137 goals for country and 937 goals for club to his name, with an European Championship and Nations League medals, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to etch his name into football history, as he aims to be recognized as the greatest to have ever graced the pitch both at club and international level.

Since the inception of the UEFA Nations League in 2018, only Portugal, Spain, and France have won the trophy. The winner of the encounter between the Spanish and French teams in tonight’s Nations League match will go head-to-head with Portugal in what will be a familiar setting.

Football lovers are eager to see what happens in today’s game, as Barça’s teenage Spanish sensation, Lamine Yamal, will be going up against explosive French player and Madrid rival Kylian Mbappé—in what could be a potential decider for this year’s Ballon d’Or, should either of them put in an exceptional performance. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. Nigerian time.
