Barcelona to Face UEFA Sanctions Over Spending Rules

Barcelona

Barcelona is reportedly facing tougher penalties after violating UEFA financial rules for the second time. The Catalan team first broke the European governing body’s regulations last year and was warned about a potential ban from their main tournament, the Champions League, for the 2024-25 season.

However, Barcelona only ended up with a fine of £420,000 (€500,000) and was allowed to participate in the last European season. The Blaugrana still struggle with financial issues, trying to manage their finances and comply with the strict rules set by both European and domestic leagues.

Hansi Flick’s team nearly lost two key players this season – Dani Olmo and Pau Victor – in January, but they were able to re-register them after selling 475 VIP seats in their upgraded Nou Camp and going through a lengthy legal battle with LaLiga.

Yet, the threat of stricter penalties seems to be increasing for next season, with the Times reporting that the club might face harsher consequences for repeated violations. The report suggests that Barcelona could have a reduced limit on the number of players they can register for Champions League games.

The LaLiga team might also face a points deduction in the tournament, which could lead to significant financial repercussions.
