Bayer Poised to Sell Super Eagles Forward Victor Boniface

After the January transfer window, Bayer 04 Leverkusen have placed a €50 million price tag on Nigerian international and the club striker Victor Boniface.

The Port City News gathered that Boniface was close to moving to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr during the January window, with a potential €70 million deal. However, the Saudi club eventually opted to sign Colombian forward Jhon Durán from Aston Villa instead.

Boniface may now be on his way out of the BayArena this summer, particularly after the appointment of former Ajax and Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who succeeded Xabi Alonso following his move to Real Madrid.

The former Bundesliga champions are reportedly preparing for life under Ten Hag and could allow Boniface, among others, to depart in order to raise funds for new signings. German media outlet Sport Bild reported that Leverkusen have lowered their asking price for the 24-year-old forward to €50 million.

In his debut season with Leverkusen, Boniface netted 21 goals and registered nine assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. He played a pivotal role in helping the club secure both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles, while they also reached the 2024 UEFA Europa League final, where they suffered a 3–0 defeat to Serie A side Atalanta.

He also won the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award for the 2023/24 season. However, Boniface’s second season was hampered by injuries, and he was relegated to the bench during the latter stages of Alonso’s tenure.

It remains uncertain whether Boniface will remain in Germany, but the Super Eagles striker, who has earned 12 caps for Nigeria, is expected to attract considerable interest when the transfer window reopens.

He could follow the likes of Alonso, Jonathan Tah, Jeremie Frimpong, and potentially Florian Wirtz, who have all departed the club.
