Super Eagles’ Nwabali to Lay Parents to Rest in Rivers

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has announced the burial dates for his late parents in Rivers State. The 28-year-old revealed the death of his father, Nwabali Onyekamu, via his Instagram page in November 2024. Barely two months later, he also announced the passing of his mother, Grace.

In a statement posted on his Instagram page on Friday, the Chippa United shot-stopper disclosed that the burial ceremonies for his parents will take place on 6 and 7 June, respectively.

The Rivers-born footballer expressed his grief, stating that he never imagined he would lose and have to bury both parents so soon. He admitted it remains difficult to accept that he would never see them again.

“About time to put my daddy and mummy to rest. Something I never imagined doing so soon at this point in my life. Difficult to believe I will never set my eyes on you again. It’s a different kind of pain I never wish for my enemy. Thank you for everything,” wrote the former Enyimba player.

According to the funeral poster shared by the former Katsina United goalkeeper, the final rites will commence on 5 June with a service of songs for his mother, organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

The service of songs will take place at her husband’s residence on Osofu Lane, Okwuzi Egbema. On 6 June, Grace’s body will be conveyed from the Gbeye Hospital Mortuary in Omoku to her father’s compound—the Colossea family of Saint M.S. Edemede in Okwuzi Egbema at exactly 9:00 a.m.

Grace, who passed away at the age of 63, will be laid to rest at her husband’s residence at 11:00 a.m. The following day, the body of Nwabali’s father, who died at the age of 72, will be moved from the same mortuary to his residence. His remains will be received by the Okwuzi Council of Chiefs at 10:00 a.m.

He will be laid to rest at his residence, with the interment and other funeral rites to follow immediately. The reception and entertainments of guests will take place at CPS, Okwuzi Egbema, by 12:00 p.m.
