NSF: Team Rivers Defeats Plateau in Men’s Basketball Final

Team Rivers emerged victorious in a gripping men’s basketball final at the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), edging out Team Plateau 63-58 in a match filled with intensity and high stakes.

Held at the vibrant Alake Sports Centre in Abeokuta, the encounter drew a large and energetic crowd, all eager to witness what turned out to be one of the most thrilling moments of the Gateway Games 2024.

Right from tip-off, both sides displayed immense determination, trading baskets and defensive stops in a closely matched contest.

Rivers maintained a narrow lead through most of the game, but Plateau remained hot on their heels, refusing to give up without a fight.

As the clock wound down in the fourth quarter, Rivers capitalized on crucial opportunities and tightened their defense, fending off a determined late-game rally from Plateau.

Their tactical discipline and composure under pressure proved vital in securing the gold medal.

The result cements Rivers’ position as one of the premier basketball teams in the country, while Plateau, despite the narrow loss, earned commendation for their spirited performance and took home the silver medal.

The basketball final was one of the standout events on Day 6 of the National Sports Festival, which commenced on May 16 and is set to conclude on May 30.
