SSDM Reiterates Commitment to Niger Delta Development

A non-governmental organization; the (South South Democratic Movement SSDM) has reiterated its commitment to the socio-political and economic development of the Niger Delta region, through adequate monitoring of on-going projects in the region.

Speaking on the sideline of the group’s meeting in Port Harcourt, National Chairman of SSDM, Prince Favour Reuben, attributed the economic backwardness of the region to the absence of any pressure group to monitor projects and highlight the plight of the people.

He said “What we are doing is the liberation of Niger Delta, they have suffered so much without any pressure group that is talking, we have a tribal group, we have a lot of sentimental group but this is a group that is coming together to fight for the course of the Niger Delta and the south-south, our core vision is the economic emancipation and the industrialization of this region.”

While decrying the backwardness of the region in spite of its enormous contribution to the national economy, Prince Reuben berated politically elected officers from the Niger Delta region, for falling to execute projects, despite receiving huge allocations for such projects.

“The region needs to rise up we don’t need to blame the President or Governor, these our representative are supposed to be doing something, they are supposed to be doing industries, how can you receive that kind of money and go home with it without even minding that the people are going through hardship yet you are building mansions for yourself and I don’t know why EFCC is not arresting them” he stated.

Prince Reuben, who explained that SSDM is not affiliated to any political party in the country, said membership of the group cuts across politicians from various political parties who are interested in the development of the Niger Delta region.
