Osimhen Shoots Galatasaray To League Title

Victor Osimhen played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s commanding 3-0 victory over Kayserispor at Rams Park on sunday, securing the club’s 25th Turkish Super Lig title. The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 26th minute, marking his 25th league goal in 29 appearances this season. His strike helped Galatasaray move eight points clear of second-placed Fenerbahce, coached by Jose Mourinho, with only two rounds remaining, ensuring their qualification for the Champions League league phase.

Galatasaray, Turkey’s most successful club, have led the Super Lig since the third matchday. Osimhen, on loan from Napoli since September, has been instrumental, contributing 25 goals and strengthening his lead in the race for the Golden Boot. According to Opta, he is now the third foreign player in Galatasaray’s history to score 25 goals in a single Super Lig season, following Bafetimbi Gomis (2017-18) and Mauro Icardi (2023-24). The 26-year-old tops the league scoring charts with 25 goals, four ahead of Krzysztof Piątek’s 21. Across all competitions, Osimhen has delivered 36 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances for Galatasaray.

The match was sealed with a late penalty from goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, capping a dominant performance. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce’s title hopes faded, marking their fourth consecutive season as runners-up. Mourinho’s side, who last won the league 11 years ago, struggled in key matches, failing to win any of their four Istanbul derbies against Galatasaray and Besiktas. The pressure has mounted on Mourinho, with local media speculating that the lack of silverware, compounded by a Turkish Cup quarter-final loss to Galatasaray last month—where he controversially grabbed the face of Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk—could lead to his departure before his contract ends next year.

Osimhen’s historic contribution not only clinched the title but also solidified his place among Galatasaray’s elite, driving the club to yet another championship in a season defined by his prolific scoring.
