Rivers Women Protest Over Abduction Of Eight WASSCE Candidates

The recent abduction of eight students by suspected pirates in the Port Harcourt – Bille waterways has sparked widespread concern.

These students were traveling to Bille to sit for their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) when they were kidnapped on May 6, 2025.

The incident has prompted protests from the women of the Bille community, demanding government’s intervention to secure the release of their children.

The protesters in Rivers State are demanding action from the government to secure the release of eight students abducted by sea pirates by collaborating with security agencies.

They are calling for intensified surveillance and rescue operations to prevent further attacks and protect commuters in the waterways.

The protesters are seeking support from the government to work with relevant security agencies in rescuing the abducted victims.

Mr. O.I. Gabriel, the Camp Commandant of the Rivers State Government House has assured the protesters that immediate action would be taken to address their concerns.

The spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that investigations are ongoing to ensure the abducted students are released unhurt and the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The abducted students have already missed their exams, which may affect their academic progress. The WASSCE exams are crucial for students, and missing them can impact their eligibility for admission into tertiary institutions.
