Catholic Bishop of Port Harcourt, Retires

After attaining the canonical age of retirement, the Holy Father Pope Francis has accepted the retirement of the Catholic Bishop of Port Harcourt, Most Revered Camillus Etokudoh.

The Pope’s message was conveyed to the faithful by the Vatican Ambassador to Nigeria, Archbishop Michael Francis-Crotty, who is currently on a pastoral visit to Port Harcourt. The Pope also appointed the Auxiliary Bishop of Port Harcourt, Most Rev. Dr. Patrick Eluke, to serve as the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese..

While addressing the Faithful, Archbishop Michael-Crottty urged them to remain peaceful and continue to pray for the intervention of the Holy Spirit for the appointment of a new Bishop for the Diocese.

The Emeritus Bishop of Port Harcourt, Most Rev Dr Camillus Etokudoh described his 16-year reign as eventful, calling on the faithful to remain United as one body In his address, the new Apostolic Administrator, Most Rev Dr Patrick Eluke said the responsibility entrusted to him is one that requires the collaboration of all faithful of Port Harcourt Diocese.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Chancellor, Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt, Rev Father Bernadine Anaele appealed to the Holy Father to approve the request for the creation of more dioceses from the present
