PILEX Centre Condemns Suspension of Rivers State Officials by Sole Administrator

The PILEX Centre for Civic Education Initiative has strongly condemned the recent suspension of key government officials in Rivers State by the state’s Sole Administrator.

In a statement released on Wednesday night, the advocacy group expressed shock and dismay over the suspension of the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, commissioners, board members, and special advisers.

The group described the move as an act of “political rascality” and accused the Sole Administrator of lacking both a legitimate mandate and a clear vision for governance.

“There is no war or breakdown of law and order in Rivers State to warrant such actions. Instead, the Sole Administrator appears to be fueling political tension to justify his illegitimate rule,” the statement read.

The PILEX Centre urged the people of Rivers State to challenge what it called “unjust governance” and demand accountability, particularly regarding the alleged misuse of public funds. It also called on the judiciary to take a stand against what it described as political overreach.

Additionally, the organization appealed to the United Nations Human Rights Committee to intervene and pressure the Nigerian government to reverse what it termed an “unfortunate political state of emergency.”

Quoting civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., the group emphasized its stance: “We have a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.”
