Aki Recalls How Stunted Growth Almost Ruined His Life

Nigeria popular Nollywood actor Chinedu Ikedieze, widely known as “Aki,” has opened up about his struggles growing up with stunted growth, revealing how it nearly derailed his life.

He made this known during a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, a media personality.

The 47-year Nollywood actor shared his painful journey of bullying, emotional turmoil, and the resilience that led him to success.

Aki’s life took a dramatic turn at the age of nine when he was diagnosed with growth retardation.

During one of his visits to the hospital with his mother after falling ill, he recalled the doctor’s words to her: “Madam, stop worrying. He has no problem. Just make sure he studies and goes to school.”

Lacking knowledge of the term “stunted growth,” he gradually began to understand its meaning as it kept surfacing in medical reports and conversations.

The diagnosis made Aki an easy target for bullying. He was constantly mocked and taunted by his peers, causing deep emotional wounds. “People taunted me. I cried several times. They called me names. It got so bad that I thought of ending it all,” he admitted.

He further disclosed that his mother became his pillar of strength during his period of pain and also encouraged him to focus on his education as a means to rise above his challenges.

Recalling her words, he said, “You are small; you cannot carry cement or do furniture work. The best thing for you is to study.”

Despite the challenges, Aki found solace in achieving academic success. He studied hard with determination to become a successful man.

His determination eventually paid off, as he became one of Nigeria’s most beloved actors after pursuing a career in Nollywood.

As a source of inspiration, Aki wants those facing similar challenges of bullying or self-doubt to remain determined to achieve their destiny, leaving words of encouragement: “Obstacles may be painful, but they do not have to determine your future.”

His journey is a testament to resilience, proving that with determination and a positive mindset, anyone can rise above adversity.
