Rivers Empowers Private School Teachers with Digital Skills Training

The Rivers State Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), has intensified efforts to equip private school teachers with digital skills essential for modern teaching.

The Ministry of Education shared this development today on their Facebook page, stated the latest phase of the mandatory training program took place at Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokwuta on Tuesday.

Educators were introduced to the Ministry’s digital platform designed to enhance their access to technology-driven learning tools.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ovy Chinedum Chukwuma, emphasized the need for teachers to embrace artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies to remain relevant in the evolving educational landscape.

“we are in a digital age such that if you are not connected,  you will be left behind.  AI is gaining ground, and if you fold your hands, technology will take your means of livelihood from you. Those who are not skilled up will not be able to cope in the coming years,” Chukwuma stated.

The Commissioner also unveiled a parenting guide titled Parenting Code: Shaping Future Leaders, developed by the Ministry to support parents in understanding modern parenting challenges.

He commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his commitment to education reforms, which prioritize both teacher development and student welfare.

State Chairman of NAPPS, Comrade Sunday Ada-fe Jaja, praised the initiative, noting that this was the third batch of training since its inception in December 2024.

According to him, feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many teachers reporting significant improvements in their teaching methods.

Participants were trained on various topics, including inclusive education, classroom management, technology integration, and best practices for effective learning delivery.

Many attendees expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention in preparing them for the future of education.
