Niger Delta Youths Storm DHQ, Demand Removal Of JTF Commander

Thousands of Niger Deltans, on Friday, stormed the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, demanding the removal of the JTF Commander in the Niger Delta, Apochi Suleiman.

He has been accused of aiding and abetting heavy oil bunkering activities in the region, leading to heavy loss of revenue for the nation and destruction of the environment.

It will be recalled that some Niger Delta Groups and youth leaders, during the week, wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari, demanding among other things, the investigation of the joint task force team, also known as operation Delta Safe.

Youths in Bille, Degema local government area, accused the joint task force team of turning the community into a marketplace for the illegal trading of bunkered crude.

Another youth group in Bony, Bayelsa State, also wrote the president demanding the removal of the JTF team in the area for illegal crude oil deals.

However, they took the case to the doorsteps of the military headquarters and urged the Service Chiefs to intervene and remove Mr. Suleiman for environmental degradation and causing revenue losses to the country.
