Kanayo O. Kanayo Defends Davido’s Remarks on Nigeria’s Economy

Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has voiced his support for Afrobeats star Davido amidst the controversy surrounding the singer’s recent comments about Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Davido, during an appearance on the US-based podcast The Big Homies House, painted a bleak picture of the country’s current situation, stating: “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles.” He made the remarks while advising Black Americans against relocating to Nigeria.

These comments sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some criticizing Davido for his candid assessment and demanding an apology. However, others have commended the singer for speaking out about the struggles many Nigerians face daily.

In response to the backlash, Kanayo O. Kanayo defended Davido, emphasizing his right to freedom of expression and highlighting the intention behind the singer’s remarks. In a video shared on Instagram, Kanayo said:

“@davido spoke his mind, isn’t it not? Respect his views too. The Adelekes can feed for life, but it will be unholy if they assume all is okay because they are okay. Make una leave Davido alone over the comment he made. It is freedom of speech, and he made the statement in good faith. It is left for those in power to work harder to give us a better Nigeria.”

Kanayo further criticized calls for Davido to apologize, questioning the need for such demands. He added:

“Some people say he should apologize, for what? Those who criticize us want the best out of us. Davido speaks for other Nigerians who cannot feed.”
