Inaugurating the committee at the chairman’s hamber of council on Wednesday, Ihunwo explained that the idea was geared towards ensuring that the people of Obio Akpor live in peace with each other.

The Obio/Akpor boss said, “We have a lot of communal matters in our LGA and as a council, we felt that we should put up this committee to address some of these issues without people necessarily having to go to the court.

“We are doing this to try and bring peace within communities in Obio Akpor local government.

“There are a lot of issues like communal and land disputes with some matters even lasting up to twenty to thirty years in court with no settlement, I have absolute trust in the membership of this committee to be diligent, so please get to work immediately, be fair to all persons and don’t betray the confidence we have reposed in you.”

Ihunwo added that “I am not happy with the Nye-well Akpor, HRM Eze Ozuonwuonwu Orlu-Oruebe, he was selected as a member of this committee but he pulled out giving a baseless excuse, he should know that he is a government recognized traditional ruler, telling me that he cannot be a member of this committee because of the personal issue he may have had with another member is wrong and is highly condemnable.”

In his response, the chairman of the peace and reconciliation committee, HRM Eze Leslie Eke JP thanked the Obio/Akpor Chairman of the council for finding them fit to serve.

Eze Leslie Eke assured that members of the committee will discharge their duties with the fear of God without any favouritism.

“We accept this responsibility, we plead that you will leave your doors open for us for continuous interface because of the magnitude of work expected of us knowing that we are going to deal with human beings with different backgrounds and understanding.”

The Obio/Akpor boss allocated an office for the committee inside the council headquarters.

The inauguration was witnessed by the leader of Obio Akpor legislative assembly, Rt Hon. Nyeche Owhonogwu.
