Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Sunday night, November 17, 2024, shot and killed a motorcycle (Okada) rider on Civil Defence Road, Ahoada town, in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Reports indicate that the gunmen, numbering three, stopped the motorcycle rider under the guise of boarding his Okada. However, the situation escalated when the rider, identified simply as Innocent, realized their intent to rob him and put up resistance.

Amid the struggle, the assailants shot Innocent and fled the scene with his motorcycle. Family members rushed the victim to an undisclosed hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries hours later.

In the meantime, the Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing. In a statement, SP Grace Iringe Koko, Spokesperson for the Command, disclosed that preliminary investigations reveal the victim resisted an attempted robbery before being shot.

“Investigation is ongoing. Efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face justice.”

The incident underscores the growing security challenges in Ahoada East, sparking calls for increased vigilance and enhanced law enforcement efforts in the area.
