Egoras Begins Sale of Subsidized Rice at N45,000 per 50kg to Ease Financial Strain

Egoras, a Nigerian startup with a focus on social impact, has begun selling its locally produced Ella parboiled rice at a subsidized rate of N45,000 per 50kg. The company’s CEO, Harry Ugoji, made the announcement in Lagos, emphasizing the initiative’s goal of relieving the financial pressure on Nigerian households.

According to Mr. Ugoji, Egoras has already distributed over 1,000 bags of rice in Abuja, with distribution extending to Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The company is set to begin sales in Lagos soon.

“The current economic situation has pushed many families into extreme financial strain. Offering this rice at less than half its usual market price is our way of giving back and supporting those most in need,” Mr. Ugoji stated. He noted that with inflation surpassing 30%, the cost of staple foods like rice has become prohibitive for many Nigerian families. To prevent exploitation, Egoras has limited sales to one bag per customer.

Egoras aims to provide some relief amidst soaring food prices. “This effort, while small, is a step toward easing the burden on struggling families. Every bag of rice sold at this price is helping a family get through these tough times,” Ugoji said.

Purchases are made through Egoras’ Telegram mini app, Egomartbot, ensuring an easy ordering process. This initiative, which began on October 12, is part of the company’s broader charity and social impact strategy.
