Rape suspect must go to jail – Neighbours insist

By Brave Dickson

Concerned neighbors in Ejekwu Eneka residential area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have insisted that the rape suspect, Kolawale, 42, who allegedly raped his 13-year-old female house help must be jailed.

The neighbors who pleaded their names not to be mentioned in print accused the suspect of consistently having carnal knowledge of the minor.

They told our correspondent that the “man is married with three children and the girl in question has been living with them. He is a rig worker and not usually around. He only comes home during his work-free week.

“Whenever he is in town and when his wife is not at home, he usually has his way with his house help who is 13 years old. The girl has been living with them for some months.

“The girl got tired of the molestation but didn’t know how to escape or avoid him. So this time, he returned from work and wanted to sleep with her again but the girl refused.

“She resisted him, ran out of the compound, and informed us of what has been going on. So we took her in for checks and confirmed that her genitalia had been tampered with via penetration.

We were shocked at the level of damage on her, occasioned by sexual assault. So, we took the girl to the state Ministry of Justice where we lodged a formal complaint. Our concern is that the rape suspect should face the law.

It was gathered that kolawale had been apprehended by the human rights desk of the state police command as the command had subsequently commenced an investigation into the allegation of rape against the suspect.

In the same vein, one Enyeoha Benjamin, a native of Obuogu in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of the state has accused the policemen serving in Obite of taking sides with one Raymond, 23, who allegedly defiled his 11year old niece.

According to Benjamin, “I had to petition the State Commissioner of Police to come to my aid because I need Justice,” adding that any time he goes to the station, the police officers keep threatening him.

However, the police were yet to react to the allegation as efforts to hear from the state police spokesperson were not successful.
