Police react to killing in Rivers community

At least five persons have lost their lives following a cult clash in the Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that the incident took place inside an estate close to Immigration Training School in Umuigwe community in Ehuda kingdom.

Confirming the incident, the Rivers State Police Command said five persons were shot dead during the clash.

In a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, who identified two of the deceased as Chukwujeku Kingsley and Chibuike Thankgod, said their corpses had been removed by the family for burial before the police arrived at the scene of the clash.

“In what appears to be a fight for supremacy, five persons are reportedly killed.

“The names of the deceased persons include Chukwuemeka Kingsley, 36, and Chibuike Thankgod, 28. Three other copses are yet to be identified,” the statement added.

Iringe-Koko noted that the bodies of the three remaining victims have been deposited at the morgue.

She said preliminary investigation revealed that the killing was a result of a clash that erupted among the cultists recently.

The statement, however, assured that the Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong-Okon, has ordered the deployment of a tactical team to the community.

Meanwhile, a source in the community said the clash was between the Icelanders and Greenlanders cult gangs.
