A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned for hearing the case involving over one hundred inmates who have stayed ten years and more at the correctional centre in Port Harcourt without trial.
The case is between the inmates and the Commissioner of Police, Attorney General of Rivers State and Correctional Services.
Recall that a Non Governmental Organization, Legal Care Advocacy Foundation had filed a suit on behalf of over 100 inmates requesting the inmates to be released unconditionally or for the state to bring out advice from Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) having stayed in correctional centre for atleast ten years.
When the matter came up for hearing, the lead Counsel for the applicants, C.I Georgewill, informed the court that all parties have been served.
However, the court observed that the 2nd Respondent (Correctional Services) in the matter was not rightly served.
Justice Dagogo Jack requested the 2nd Respondent be served and adjourned the case to 17 November, 2022, for hearing.
