Breaking: Rivers NLC appionts new chairperson

The Rivers State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has announced the removal of Comrade Beatrice Itubo as its state chairperson.

This is following her emergence as the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Rivers State last week ahead of the 2023 elections.

A statement by the union signed by its Vice-Chairpersons, Comr. Morford Temple, Comr. Alex Ikechi, Comr. Opi Erekosima and Comr. Awashi Eze said the decision was reached after its State Administrative Council meeting on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Comr. Emecheta Chuku has been appointed the new Chairperson.

The statement said the change is to reposition the state union for “maximum gains for the benefit of Rivers state workers.”

The NLC also commended the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on the commencement of verification of pensioners towards the payment of gratuity, pension arrears, and death benefits.
