2023: I will resign as Minister on Monday – Amaechi hints

Presidential aspirant and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, has disclosed that he will be resigning from his position as Minister on Monday, as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari to members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) seeking elective positions in the 2023 general elections.

Amaechi, while in a consultative meeting in Kaduna on Sunday, appealed to APC delegates in the State to support and vote for him ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.

Acprdomg to the former Rivers Governor, “I am resigning as the Minister of Transportation tomorrow, Monday the 16th May, 2022 to pursue in earnest my presidential ambition.”

Speaking further, Amaechi revealed that the attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train would not have happened if FEC had approved the surveillance contract he requested to monitor the rail track as he promised to tackle insecurity if elected as President.

Recall that Godswill Akpabio and Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Ministers of Niger Delta and State for Education respectively, had resigned from office on Wednesday, following Buhari’s order.

But Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, and Abubakar Malami, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, had made a U-turn by withdrawing from contesting elections in 2023.

Other Ministers affected by President Buhari’s directive include Ogbonnaya Onu (Science, Technology, and Innovation), Timipre Sylva (Petroleum Resources – State), Uche Ogar (Mines and Steel – State), and Pauline Tallen (Minister of Women Affairs).
