The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has dismissed reports of a disagreement between its chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The party said Okocha’s absence from the recent unveiling of Rainbow Coalition candidates for the 2027 elections was due to a medical trip overseas, not any rift.
In a statement on Saturday October 31, 2026, the Rivers State APC Publicity Secretary Chibike Ikenga said that Chief Okocha is receiving treatment abroad for a deteriorating health condition and he obtained Wike’s approval before travelling.
“There is no disagreement whatsoever and the chairman will reunite with the party executive and the Rainbow Coalition upon his return from his medical trip,” the statement said.
While describing the FCT minister as the national leader of the Rainbow Coalition and his benefactor, the statement described claims of a fallout as “half-truths and outright lies” peddled by opponents seeking to sow discord within the coalition.
It urged members and supporters to disregard the rumours.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to the Rainbow Coalition and its goal of delivering victory for President Bola Tinubu, Rivers governorship candidate Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, and all other coalition-endorsed candidates for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly in 2027.
