Okrika youths set up community policing to curb incessant homicides

Brave Dickson

The youths of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State have begun the setting up of community policing to curb incessant incidents of homicide.

The National Youth President of the LGA, Charles Melford who disclosed this to our correspondent said homicide is becoming one too many in Okrika.

According to him, “if we don’t take aggressive measures aimed at curtailing homicide, our communities will be recording killings every day.

“We have heard too many cases of homicide occasioned by light provocations and we don’t want it in our communities.

“Recently, one Saadu by name stabbed an Igbo youth in George-Ama to death over a minor disagreement.

“Though the killer suspect is in police custody, no amount of punishment against the suspect can bring back the life of the dead.

“This community policing will specifically address issues of homicide with the necessary preventive measures put in place to stop it before it occurs.

“We have met with our traditional leaders and all relevant stakeholders and their nod have encouraged us to go ahead.”

The youth leader further assured Okrikans that incidents of homicide will soon be history in Okrika in the coming days.
