‘Money we spent so far not misplaced priority’ – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has declared that the money his administration has released for the Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre in the State is not a misplaced priority.

Speaking at an inspection of the project site at Rumuokuta in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Wike noted that putting health facilities for the benefit of residents is important as this, he added, will save time required to travel abroad for treatment.

Wike, while expressing satisfaction with the level of work done, hinted that the facility, which he said is a first of its kind in the country, will be like a tourist center as he assured that Nigerians will be happy with it.

“We have confidence in Julius Berger and having come here today, I think they are on schedule. We are happy with the level of work.

“It’s not a job you must rush. They are taking their time to make sure they give the citizens of the state the best and to Nigerians in general.

“You know it is a specialist hospital, the first of its kind in this country. We are quite comfortable and confident that by end of July 2022, they would have handed over this very important project to the State.”

The governor further explained that a doctors’ quarters will be included within the Treatment Centre, which he said will curb excuses of doctors being unable to attend to patients timely, particularly in emergency situations.

Updating the governor on the level of work done, Juergen Fischer, Regional Manager of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC said they are conscious of the promise they have made to the governor to deliver the project by the end of July 2022, as he noted that the milestone achieved has surpassed what was initially expected even with the rains.
