Operatives of Enugu State Police Command has arrested a woman identified as Mrs Nnenna Egwuagu for the murder of her 3-year-old stepson.
The suspect allegedly killed her stepson, Wisdom Egwuagu, by injecting him with a poisonous substance.
Information provided by the state’s Police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, on Friday, stated that the father of the deceased, Mr Justine Egwuagu, reported the case to police officers attached to 9th Mile Police Division and alleged that the child’s death was caused by a poisonous substance administered on him by his stepmom.
He further disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to having administered the poisonous substance on the child because of her husband’s inability to take care of her and their daughter.
She said she had wanted the child to become sick, so that her husband could spend money to treat him.
Ndukwe said that the child was confirmed dead at the hospital while his corpse has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
He added that the container of the noxious substance and syringe used by the suspect in performing the act, have been recovered and further investigations kicked off.
