National Principal’s Cup competition kicks-off in Rivers State

The National Principal’s Cup will come alive this week across the country as teams jostle for honours in the five-day soccer fiesta.

The organizers of the National Principal’s Cup, the Nigeria School Sports Federation NSSF said the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports has directed them to organize the state finals scheduled for 8th-12th March 2021.

The NSSF also said the maiden edition of the revamped competition will feature three sports, namely football, table tennis, and athletics.

Adokiye Amesimaka stadium will host the National Principal’s Cup matches in Rivers State.

In the opening match of the tournament in Rivers State, Western Ahoada County High School will face Community Government Secondary School Alode-Eleme.

In other games

Birabi Memorial Grammar School Bori vs Baptist High School Port Harcourt

Community Secondary School Igbo-Etche vs Government Comprehensive Secondary School Mbiama.

Great calvary International Academy Port Harcourt vs Modern Boys School, Port Harcourt.

Port Harcourt International School vs Okrika National Secondary School, Okrika.

Winners at the state, levels are expected to converge at the six geopolitical zones for regional play-offs.

All matches will kick-off by 8.30am every day.

In addition, the Nigeria School Sports Federation NSSF has concluded plans to stage the first-ever National Board Games Competition tagged ‘Board Champs’ for Basic and Secondary Schools across the country.

Board Champs comprises of sports that can help students develop a stronger sense of creativity by enhancing logic and reasoning skills which improve critical thinking and boost their academic performances.

The Board Games include Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly, Ayo, and Dart.

Registration for the competition ends on Friday 12th March, while the State Finals is scheduled to hold between Monday, February 22nd-Friday 26th March 2021.

The zonal play-offs will hold from Ist-3rd April while the National Finals is slated for Sunday 18th-Friday 23rd April 2021.

Winners from the regional stage will converge in Lagos at Teslim Balogun Stadium /National Stadium Surulere for the National finals.
