Residents flee Rivers Community over killing of youth leader

Residents of Umuebulu Community in Etche local government area of Rivers State, have deserted their homes after a former youth leader in the community, Godwin Njoku, was killed by unknown gunmen.

Njoku, popularly known as Biggy was killed by gunmen suspected to be cultists on Thursday morning.

His death, a community source told theportcitynews, sparked a riot in the community as youths said to be his loyalists, paraded the community, brandishing dangerous weapons.

The motives behind his killing are yet unknown but community sources said his death may be linked to land tussles and other communal issues involving the victim in the area.

DSP. Nnamdi Omoni, the Police Public Relations Officer, said the police were aware of the murder, adding that police were investigating issues surrounding the killing to unmask the identities of the assailants.
