COVID-19: Okrikans deny receiving food palliatives from Rivers govt

By Brave Dickson

Okrikans have denied receiving food palliatives from the Rivers State Government.

Governor Nyesom Wike led state government had through its committee on COVID-19 palliatives said it had distributed some food items to the people of Rivers State.

A leader in Okrika Local Government Area of the state and representative of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) to the LGA, Comrade Tamunokubie Idasefiema confirmed to our correspondent that no food palliatives from the state government had been brought to the LGA.

Idasefiema said his people are disturbed because hardship and criminality are now on the rise in the LGA.

“As I speak to you, Okrika LGA has not received any food palliative from the Rivers State Government.

“The situation we are in now had given rise to a high level of hardship and criminality in Okrika LGA, he said”.

You recall that TPCN had earlier reported an alarm of looming food theft raised by the indigenes of the LGA, following the lockdown directive by the state government to halt the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PANDEF LGA leader also attributed the food theft to food scarcity and price inflation saying that: “Unfortunately, the rich men in Okrika have done nothing to reduce the suffering.

“We are begging our governor to come to our area to see how he can see things for himself and provide food for my community.”
