COVID-19: Market women regret voting Wike as governor

Market women in Rivers State who are suffering because of market closure have come out to express regret for voting Nyesom Wike as governor of the state.

The Vice Chairlady, Creek Road Market Union, Sarah Igah who spoke on behalf of the market women told our correspondent that the closing down of markets by the governor had made them beg before eating.

She said: “Honestly, we regret voting Wike as governor because we never knew he will treat us like this.

“This market closure by the government is affecting us especially we that do not have money.

“Taskforce is everywhere chasing us and our customers.

“We are really suffering from hunger.

“Government should allow us to trade some days or give us money if it doesn’t want us to trade.

“What most of we market women are doing now is to beg before we eat because our means of livelihood has been taken away from us.”

The market vice chairlady also said her union had tried in many ways to draw Wike’s attention to their plight but the governor had refused to listen to
