Breaking: British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson tests positive for coronavirus

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Johnson tweeted on Friday: “Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.”

He added: “I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this #StayHomeSaveLives.”

Johnson has been delivering daily briefings to the nation on the government’s coronavirus response, but in recent days has left the task to his fellow cabinet ministers.

The 55-year-old leader is expecting a child with his partner, Carrie Symonds, later this year. It is not known whether she has caught the virus.

There have been almost 12,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.K. to date, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Britain’s heir to the throne, Prince Charles, has also been diagnosed with coronavirus and is self-isolating in Scotland
