Rivers: 10 teachers arrested for defying state government’s directive on coronavirus

At least 10 teachers of a private nursery and primary school have been arrested for flouting the government’s directive on the closure of schools to curtail the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The recalcitrant teachers were arrested in Rumuomasi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.

Mr Solomon Eke, the local government chairman who acted on a tip-off stormed the school, Mission Education Centre along Arochukwu Street, Rumuomasi, and met about 100 students in different classes in mufti.

The pupils were said to be preparing to write their examination despite contrary to the order issued by the state government on Monday.

Governor Nyesom Wike had in a broadcast on Monday asked schools to shut down with immediate effect.

Eke, urged residents of Obio/Akpor to support efforts of government insisting that his council would continue to monitor the compliance level across the Local Government Area.

Also, the council commenced the distribution of sanitizers and disinfectants to various police divisions in the area.
