NYCOP leaders blame security agents over killings in Ogoniland

By Brave Dickson

The recent spate of insecurity, occasioned by gang killings in Ogoniland has been blamed on security agents by some leaders of the National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP).

The activists and senior leaders of NYCOP, Comrade Matthew Dighi and Dr Young Nkpah in a separate chat with our correspondent jointly accused some security agents of working with gang killers in Ogoniland through intelligence sharing.

Dighi expressed displeasure over refusal by the security agencies to convene a summit, maintaining that: “Some security agents are working with the bad boys that want to destroy Ogoniland.
“If you give intelligence to some security agents in Ogoniland, they will leak it out to the criminals who will in turn come after your life.

“The security agents in Ogoniland are not doing their jobs. Yet they claim they are protecting the lives and property of the people.

“I am calling for security summit where we will meet to address security issues. This summit should involve all security agencies and the youth leadership of Ogoni.”
Nkpah condemned the untrained manner of some security agents in Ogoniland and called for a routine monitoring of their operations in the area.
He said, “some security agents in Ogoniland are not properly trained and have destroyed the trust we initially had in them.
“I call on the federal government to routinely monitor the activities of the security agents in Ogoniland.”
