Tailor bags 6 months jail term for stealing clothes in Port Harcourt

A tailor, Michael Ubi ‘m’ of 44 years old has today been sentenced to six months in prison with an option of N200,000 fine by a magistrate court in Port Harcourt.

The convict, who was arraigned by the police for stealing some clothes valued at N232,800, was said to have pleaded guilty to the charge.

The one-count charge slammed on him with charge number: PMC/172c/2020 read that, “you Michael Ubi, on the 24th day of January at about 12:00hrs at No. 168 Okporo Road, Rumuodara, Port Harcourt did steal cloth materials valued the sum of N232,800, property of one James Chike and thereby committed an offence.”

Narrating his reason for stealing to our correspondent. the criminal said: “I had an accommodation challenge after the burial of my father.

“The complainant used to be my boss and had been very greedy to me since I started sewing clothes for him.”

In another development, one Chika Ukeje ‘m’ 24yr is now telling the court why he allegedly stole various sums of money from traders at Mile one, Railway market in Port Harcourt.

The six-count charges brought before Chief Magistrate, Chinelo Odili against Ukeje also accused him of stealing custard, rubbers of rice and beans including full and half bags of rice and beans from his victims.

The court had however adjourned the case till February 20, 2020.
