Woman dies as car plunges into river in Port Harcourt

A yet-to-be-identified woman has died as her Camry saloon plunged into Amadi Ama river off NLNG, Road, Port Harcourt.

The taxi was heading to Abuloma in Port Harcourt when it plunged into the Amadi Ama river from the Nkpogu bridge.

The woman who was the only passenger of the vehicle was drowned while the driver survived.

Eyewitnesses reported that heavy equipment from Julius Berger was moved to the area on Tuesday as search party was dispatched in a bid to evacuate the victim.

Locals who lived in the area said the incident happened on Monday night at about 9 pm, adding that the locals tried unsuccessfully to evacuate the remaining occupant of the vehicle.

The eyewitnesses said the male driver survived as he swam out the vehicle and was later evacuated to a nearby hospital, adding that the driver’s vision was reportedly blurred by a smoky heavy-duty vehicle, forcing him to skid off the road.
