Awara vs Wike: Tribunal subpoenas Assistant Police Commissioner

The second petitioner in the petition challenging the re-election of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, the African Action Congress, AAC, has closed its case.

AAC and their gubernatorial candidate, Awara Biokpomabo, are by challenging the Victory of Governor Nyesom Wike in the March 9th governorship election.

The party’s final witness, Victor Onugbo, an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, tendered documents containing result sheets before the Election Petition Tribunal.

Victor Onugbo presented the documents based on the subpoena served on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police by the tribunal.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police told the tribunal that the result sheets are signed Police copies from the March 9th election in the state, adding that they are certified true copies which were duly signed by the former CP Usman Balel after the Declaration of the results.

He also confirmed that there was no declaration of results for Abua/Odual and Gokana Loval Government Areas, stressing that results were declared in Obio/Akpor local government.

Onugbo said all the activities of police whether during or after the election were under the jurisdiction of commissioner of police.

He told the tribunal that it’s a practice in the police that satisfied copies and stamps of the documents were kept with OC legal, adding that the documents he presented to the tribunal represent the incidents that occurred during election, report of which was signed by the Rivers State police command.

Henry Bello, Counsel to 2nd petitioner AAC, told our correspondent, Tina Amanda, that their case was established from results collated at the polling units, wards, LGAs and state Collation centres, adding that tribunal has the final decision.

On his part, Co- Counsel to INEC Livingston Woyike, said the documents tendered by the witness did not in any way indict security agencies or INEC.
