Killings: Hotel owners in Rivers State set new guidelines for lodgers, business owners

Following the constant killing of young girls by unknown serial killers in Rivers State, Nigerian Hotels Association, Rivers State chapter has set new guidelines for lodgers and members.

The association after its meeting with the Rivers State police commissioner, Mustapha Dandaura on Monday, came out with 10 point guidelines it hopes would stop the trending killings in hotels in the state.

1 Need for Synergy between Hotels and law enforcement agencies in areas of operations

  1. Compulsory installation of functional CCTV in Hotels especially to cover reception, rooms, corridors and entrance, a grace of three weeks before enforcement.

  2. Strict compliance to check-in and checkout procedure (guest cards, confirmed phone details, identity cards, registration of visitors).

  3. training of Hotel staff on security and safety in partnership with the Police and other security agencies.

  4. Need for armed security personnel in Hotels alternatively contact area DPO to ensure patrol of your area.

  5. All Hotels with Pool to ensure employment of competent lifeguards and pools should be closed when no lifeguard as any death from the pool will be treated as Murder.

  6. All Cabs operating in and out of Hotels, including airport cabs, must be appropriately profiled to ensure guest safety.

  7. Short time guest should be minimized or eradicated as they commit more crime in hotels.

  8. All Hotels must belong to the Association

  9. PLEASE NOTE ANY HOTEL THAT FAILS TO COMPLY AND FALLS
    VICTIM TO ANY OF THE DIRECTIVES MAY BE CLOSED

The guest report must be submitted to the Police SIB unit weekly.
