Police engage suspected robbers in gunfight in Rivers State

Police in Rivers State says its men from the Operation Sting outfit have killed two suspected armed robbers in the Rumuagholu area of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

A statement by the public relations officer of the command, Nnamdi Omoni, said the officers who were acting on credible information on Saturday night tailed a Black Mazda car with Reg.no KNM 504 Rivers with four armed robbers on board who were on their way for operation.

The Command’s image maker said that upon sighting the Police, the suspected robbers immediately jumped down from the vehicle and opened fire on the police team who subsequently returned fire, fatally wound two of the suspects, while two others escaped with life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Omoni said one AK47 Rifle, Eighty-Three (83) rounds of 7.62mm, Two Magazines and One Pump Action Gun were recovered from the robbers.

Other items recovered from the suspects include Four Cartridges and one Operational vehicle.

He said that efforts are seriously on to arrest other members of the deadly gang on the run and urged the Public and indeed residents of Rumuagholu and Rumuokoro to increase their security consciousness and report any person or persons with gunshot wounds to the nearest Police Station via the following security numbers:
