Market Square says it has no affiliation with South Africa amidst attacks on MTN, Shoprite

Market square, Nigeria’s emerging grocery retail chain has sparked off reactions on social media with its comedic sign at the entrance to one of its Port Harcourt outlet which indicates that it is not a South African-owned company.

The sign came amidst retaliatory attacks on South African owned businesses following attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa.

The notice read: “Market Square is 100% Nigerian Owned Company. Market Square Has No Affiliation With South Africa. Thank You For Your Patronage.”

The Company said on its website that commenced trading in December 2015, adding that it is a place where Nigerians can go to find their trusted brands of groceries at the best prices.

It said the chain store was conceived from a burning sensation to create a modern and relevant retail shopping experience for Nigerians and a more convenient way for people to get their everyday needs.
