Police foil protest against violent killings in Port Harcourt

Florence Uwaeme

A Protest to stop the violent killings in Rivers state organized by the Rivers State Civil Society Organization was on Thursday, suppressed by the police.

Theportcitynews gathered that at least 200 Policemen in over 10 trucks and private cars blocked entrance to Isaac Boro Park, the venue of protest and asked protesters to turn back.

Our correspondent reports that the protesters were chased to CFC Bus Stop.

Recall that sometime in April, the Rivers state government banned all public protests. It is not immediately clear if the ban has been lifted.

Organizers of the protest said that they had met with the state Commissioner of Police & the Force Public Relations Officer.

The said that they duly informed and gave letters about the protest and asked the police to provide security which they promised to.

They said that if half the arms Policemen deployed to repress peaceful protesters had been sent to patrol major flashpoints in the state, the killing could have been avoided
