Community sources explain motives behind murder of CDC chairman, chief priest in Choba

Community sources have attributed the early morning killing of a community development committee, CDC, chairman and a chief priest in Choba community, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State to a tussle over youth chairmanship position.

This is as a record number of persons have relocated from the community as fears heightened on Sunday morning of a retaliatory attack.

Theportcitynews gathered from reliable community sources was that the crisis in the community started after a division over who is to be recognized as the authentic youth chairman.

Sources said that the youth chairman is usually in charge of revenue collection in the weekly market and other notable establishment in the community which runs into millions of naira monthly.

The sources who did not want to be named due to the seriousness of the matter said those who were killed on Sunday morning belonged to a different faction, adding that the number of persons killed were six and not two.

Theportcitynews earlier reported that Mr Lawrence Igwe who was the CDC chairman of the community and also a Director in the Rivers State ministry of Environment, and one Chief Orji said to be the community’s traditional chief priest were the notable figures killed during separate raids on their homes on Sunday.

The gunmen also invaded the home of traditional ruler of the community and detonated dynamites in the building leaving scored wounded.
