Niger Delta Activist ANKKIO BRIGGS has condemned the use of the military during the presidential and governorship elections in Rivers State.

ANKKIO BRIGGS while addressing members of Ijaw Youth Council IYC Eastern Zone said the military does not have constitutional roles during elections in Nigeria.

The Niger Delta Activist also frowned at the alleged human rights abuses by the military during the elections.

She said that the federal government should not use oil money it’s getting from the Niger Delta to kill Rivers people.

Ankio Briggs noted that the people of the region should get better treatment from the federal government and not intimidation.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Ijaw Youth Council Eastern Zone, SAMUEL GEORGE, while condemning the use of the military during the elections said the Ijaws would not be coaxed into voting a candidate that will not be in the interest of Rivers people.

He lamented the invasion of the palaces of the traditional rulers in Rivers State by the Nigerian Army.

The Ijaw youth leader said that such action would not happen in the North and called for restraining by the federal government.

Samuel George stated that Ijaws are peaceful people but will allow anyone to intimidate, harass or disrupt the peace of the Niger Delta region.
