One killed as cultist run rampage in Choba

A middle-aged man was on Wednesday gunned down as the beef between rival cult groups in Choba escalated.

There were sporadic gunshots in the area earlier in the day at the Rumuchakara/Indomie gate. This follows series of cult-related killings in the state with as much as 28 persons losing their lives in the last four days.

Theportcitynews gathered that the shooting at Choba on Wednesday which started at about 11 am and ended at about 3: 15 pm, sent shivers down the spines of the residents.

Shops were closed as residents scampered for safety.

A source who did not want to be named told our correspondent that the cultists who wore masks came for a reprisal following an earlier killing of 3 cultists at the Ohwipa area of the town a week ago.

According to him: “They came wearing masks. Immediately they started shooting, everyone started running. They moved from street to street as rival cult members exchanged gunfire. At the end of it all, we learnt that one person was killed. As I am talking to you, some people are packing their loads, relocating to other places.

“Choba is no longer safe. We are calling on the police to beef up security in the town. The shooting has become an everyday thing. We now live in fear” he said
