Breaking: Police rescue kidnapped Agofure passengers in Rivers state

Rivers State command of the Nigerian Police says its men have rescued twelve passengers who were kidnapped on Monday, January 28, at the Rumuekpe axis of the East-West Road.

The bus was en route Warri in Delta State when gunmen ambushed it killing the driver and whisking the passengers into the bush.

The spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said officers attached to the anti-kidnap unit combed the forest in Rumuekpe community, where twelve passengers were rescued after a fierce gun battle with the kidnappers.

He explained that the officers were able to gun down one of the kidnappers while the others fled with two passengers.

Omoni assured the public that the command is on the trail of the fleeing kidnappers in a bid to rescue the remaining passengers, and expressed hope that the kidnappers will be apprehended soon.
