Comrade Bright Agbali, the President General of Ethnic Youth Leaders Council, the apex body of all youth groups in Rivers State, has said that the 2019 general election in Rivers State will be violence-free.
Addressing journalist on Thursday during a press conference as part of its activities to commemorate a one-day peace and security sensitization campaign where divers security agencies including the Nigeria prison commission in the state and other stakeholders will be sensitising youths from different ethnic groups in Rivers state on penalties and punishment that any youths who violates or mar the electoral processes of this year’s general election will face, he said that:”INEC has recently released an information, a statistic which showed that the youths have over sixty percent (60%) votes to deliver.
“To make a change in government, the same youths are the ones who people blame for perpetrating violence and mismanagement of information that lead to violence.
“I blame the law enforcement agencies and some community based-civil organizations because most times when they organize sensitization programs that are supposed to educate and enlighten the youths, just for the youths and with the youths, they miss their audience( the youths).
According to him: “It is a known fact that youths in the country are mostly used by politicians to disrupt election processes, and Rivers State have also been tagged as a flashpoint for violence in this year’s general election, but I assure you earnestly as the president of this group and with the full cooperation of all security agencies in the state, who will also read out to our youths the Act of war on that the 2019 election will be zero violence and zero death.
“After the sensitization campaign, we ( members of Rivers State ethnic youths) will move to all the villages in Rivers State to in turn sensitive these boys.
“Most of the boys that carry gun to disrupt election are not formally educated, so to create a level ground for adequate communication, whatever we (the youth group) information we gather from the sensitization campaign, we will in-turn take it back to our various communities in the state to inform and educate those boys in the village” he said
