Highlife and pop crooner, Lexy M has urged the government in Rivers State to officially celebrate the memories of the king of high life music in Nigeria, Jim Rex Lawson.
Rex Lawson was born on 4 March 1935 in New Kalabar, died on 18 January 1971 at the age 36 in a car accident at the Urhamigbe corner on the Asaba–Benin Road while on his way to Warri, Nigeria for a performance.
A highly emotional and deep musician, Lawson was known to weep and shed tears while singing his own songs on stage, notably the haunting So ala teme.

Lawson began his career in Port Harcourt as a bandboy for Lord Eddyson’s Starlight Melody Orchestra. He later played with Sammy Obot, Bobby Benson, Victor Olaiya, Chris Ajilo, and other Ghanaian and Nigerian musicians and bands.

Just imagine that Late JIM REX LAWSON was a Yoruba man. The Lagos State Government would celebrate him like MICHAEL JACKSON! A Rivers Kalabari man with the title KING OF HIGHLIFE MUSIC IN NIGERIA never remembered & celebrated by its Government & people.
It’s 8days to go & till date no Committees, no arrangements, no jingles, no billboards, no plans to mark & honour this GREAT RIVERS SON.
