Breaking: We will take protest to politicians’ bedroom –Rivers retirees

Brave Dickson

Over 3,000 senior citizens under the July 2015 contributory pension scheme of the Rivers State Government retirees have expressed readiness to take their protest to all relevant authorities.

The pensioners who resumed their protest today said it is time to even stage their protest in the bedrooms of those politicians who have refused to pay them their gratuities.

The Coordinator and Public Relations Officer of the grieved pensioners, Mr Lucky Ati said, “during our last protest, we were promised by the Rivers State Government on the 10th of October, 2018 that prompt action will be taking to ensure that our gratuities are paid but the state contributory pension law has to be amended first.

“The State House of Assembly has done nothing to amend the law. We see this as a deliberate delay to deny us our retirement benefits.
We can no longer tolerate this from government.”

Our correspondent reports that the pensioners converged at the state secretariat complex with banners carrying various inscriptions such as: Our people are now homeless, our children are out of school, we are suffering from terminal ailments that require regular medication and many have died among others.

The pensioners who intended to storm the state assembly complex with their protest are passionately calling on Governor Nyesom Wike to come to their aid
